A 6:30am flight departure is never easy. Make it an international departure from an airport that is 2 hours away without traffic and it becomes a dilemma. That is exactly what I was facing for a recent trip to Cebu, Philippines. I live in San Diego and needed to arrive at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 4am. There is nothing appealing about arriving at the airport at 4am. The best solution was to head to Los Angeles the night before and stay at a hotel near the airport.
Once my departure time to the Philippines was confirmed, I began looking for a hotel for the night before my flight. My number one priority for the hotel was that it was very close to LAX . My second priority was the hotel room be sound proofed so I could get a good night sleep. Well partial night sleep – until my alarm time of 3:30am. If you head to Trip Advisor or any other review site, the biggest complaint I read about hotels near LAX was plane noise.
I reached out to the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel and they were kind enough to offer me a room. The hotel had everything I wanted. They are about a mile from LAX, they offer a 24 hour airport shuttle, have a restaurant for an early dinner and the rooms are sound proofed; no flight noise.
The Renaissance is an upscale hotel with concierge, bellman, pool, fitness room, sauna and many more amenities I didn’t have enough time to properly enjoy. I did have time to explore the lobby and appreciate the decor and art.
I enjoyed an early dinner at the lobby bar. The bar menu included casual fare like a club sandwich, burger and open faced salmon sandwich and flat bread pizzas. Also on the menu are main courses such as miso chicken, filet mignon and pasta carbonara. I opted for a chicken Caesar salad and glass of Cabernet. It was classic Caesar and delicious.
The hotel offers a business center with computers that make it very convenient to check email and confirm flights.
My room, on the 9th floor had great views of the flights taking off and landing at LAX. The room was very spacious, the bed was super comfy with great pillows. Pillows can be a deal breaker for me. Some are so big, I just don’t sleep well. Thank you Renaissance LAX for picking out the perfect pillow.
I appreciated the shuttle showing up on time and a very short ride to the airport.
Parting thoughts: If you are looking for an upscale hotel near LAX airport with all the amenities, great food, spacious sound proofed rooms with a great bed this is the my number one recommendation.

A huge thank you to Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel for their generous hospitality. I was their guest at the hotel, but as always, all opinions are my own.
